My Week in Review

Post Type: Picture Book

WOW I've TOTALLY violated this giant rule of "this blog shall be updated at least once a day".

Ok that's 2 violations so far, 3 times and anyone who glimps on my blog can boot me when they see me on the street.

Let's start with when I stopped blogging- Chinese New Year...正月初一
今儿已经大年初七了……

正月初二:Monday, February 11th.

School started again, I'm back to student teach at my beloved KCI. Hooray, free from teacher's college BS for another 7 weeks! This is amazing!

This block coming back, I'm teaching:
Grade 9 Academic Math
Grade 11 Academic Math... and *drum roll*... teaching can't get more fun than this...
Grade 10 Communication Tech (in place of my computer science course)! Boo yeah! All those artsy courses I've taken in high school is FINALLY paying off!

SO EXCITED!

正月初三: Tuesday, Feb 12th

Today my communication tech teacher has shown me one of the coolest things (ICT) that he employs with his students, it's an educational social network, with a design like that of Facebook but with so much more clarity and simplicity, almost perfect (for high school level and below) in both functionality and usability.

Edmodo

Pretty much started in 2009, it's catching on like fire in the educational community and currently has 13 million registered users (students and teachers).

As a young computer science teacher-wanna-be, I am so very highly energized by seeing that there are fresh-minded teachers who are not out-of-touch and exercising trendy techie education motives. It's not like, you step into a high school classroom, you go back 20 years in time sort of thing.

正月初四:Wednesday, Feb. 13th

Sometimes very little things can link you to think about a lot of things all at once.

My associate teacher is retiring next year, today after school she says she's gotta run to the hospital quickly. I thought she was visiting someone. She was going to deliver the class notes to the parent (who works in the hospital) of one of the kid in her class.
\
I don't know if the kid's parents care more about their kid. I certainly don't know with all the modern methodologies, structure, conformity to rules and regulations, that if we, the new generation of young teachers still remember the very virtue that drives the profession- care.

正月初五: Thursday, Feb 14th-Valentine's Day

KCI had an assembly today (apparently organized by students too). Very nice! First assembly I went to in an associate school.

Revolving back to technology and being up-to-date with real world rather than naively outdated. This is one of my fellow teacher's flip classroom model (refer to Khan Academy if you want to see it in practice in large scale)'s YouTube channel for videos that she filmed for the students so they can learn the basic content at home and come to school for more practice and enriching conversations and activities.

I am now a subscriber =]

正月初六: Friday, Feb 15th-Day Before Reading Week
People are storming out for reading week, which I have none. Misery of a working class. Have fun everyone. UW Davis Center has the usual reading week rush.

I'm feeling harder to swallow, maybe I'm getting a throat inflammation. I'm not drinking enough water clearly, my throat always dry and lips cracking. Must drink more water. Remember to drink lots of water everyday kids!

This day concludes end of my first week at KCI.

正月初七: Today, Saturday, Feb 16th

Oh my I'm finally all caught up with this blog.

My throat is burning and I can't stop swallowing every other seconds. FFFFF. I hope I don't get sick from swallowing too much. Ugh my throat burns.

Going to ski on Monday, bought a skiing jacket and a little boy's snow pants (pretty thin, for boys aged 10-12) for $40 in total "EVERYTHING AT WALMART!".

Sorry friends, I am not strong-willed nor ethical enough to reject 3rd world-cheap-rip-off-labour-produced-benefiting-industrialists-and-hypnotized-consumers-product Wal-Mart offers at an amazing price. Just the nature of my cheapness, sorry my fellow Asian workers in factories back home! Full respect!
